\nIl a \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9 sous forme libre et li\u00e9e dans l'hypothalamus, syst\u00e8me limbique et hypophyse ainsi que divers organes p\u00e9riph\u00e9riques, tissus et fluides corporels.[5] Dans l'hypophyse, il co-localise avec de nombreux m\u00e9diateurs peptidiques et non peptidiques tels que le peptide interm\u00e9diaire de type corticotrophine (CLIP), l'hormone adr\u00e9nocorticotrophique (ACTH), l'hormone stimulant les m\u00e9lanocytes (MSH), l'hormone stimulant la thyro\u00efde (TSH) et la concentration de m\u00e9lanine hormonale (MCH).
