Nesiritide diperkenalkan di AS sebagai pengobatan intravena baru untuk pasien dengan gagal jantung kongestif akut dekompensasi yang mengalami dispnea saat istirahat atau dengan aktivitas minimal itas. Nesiritide adalah bentuk rekombinan manusia pertama dari peptida natriuretik tipe B vasodilatasi kuat (juga dikenal sebagai peptida natriuretik otak), peptida asam amino 32 yang terbentuk secara alami dengan struktur cincin asam amino 17 ikatan disulfida. Nesiritide dibersihkan oleh pembelahan proteolitik oleh enzim netral endopeptidase NEP24.11 dan dengan mengikat reseptor peptida natriuretik tipe-C diikuti oleh endositosis dan hidrolisis lisosom intraseluler.
