Eptifibatide is een soort synthetisch cyclisch hexapeptide bestaande uit 6 aminozuren en 1 mercaptopropionylresidu. Het is in staat te binden aan de bloedplaatjesreceptor-glycoprote\u00efne (GP) IIb\/IIIa van menselijke bloedplaatjes en de bloedplaatjesaggregatie te remmen, waardoor de binding van het fibrinogeen, de von Willebrand-factor en andere adhesieve liganden wordt geblokkeerd. Het is ge\u00efndiceerd voor de behandeling van acuut coronair syndroom (ACS) en percutane coronaire i interventie (PCI). Het kan het risico op acute cardiale ischemische voorvallen verminderen bij pati\u00ebnten met onstabiele angina of myocardiale infectie met niet-ST-segmentelevatie. Het wordt vaak gebruikt in combinatie met aspirine of clopidogrel en heparine.
