Octreotide is een synthetische 8-peptide cyclische verbinding die wordt gebruikt in het spijsverteringsstelsel. Het is een homoloog van natuurlijk somatostatine. Het heeft de farmacologische activiteit van natuurlijk somatostatine en heeft een langdurig effect (de halve van dit product is 1,5 uur, terwijl natuurlijke somatostatine 2-3 minuten is). Dit product kan selectief de afscheiding van groeihormoon, glucagon en insuline remmen, die sterker is dan natuurlijk somatostatine.<\/p>\n
