Decapeptide-12 \u00e9 uma mat\u00e9ria-prima cosm\u00e9tica que inibe a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de melanina, clareia a pigmenta\u00e7\u00e3o, reduz pigmenta\u00e7\u00e3o e uniformiza e clareia o tom da pele. \n Decapeptide-12 reversivelmente se liga \u00e0 tirosinase, uma enzima encontrado em v\u00e1rias c\u00e9lulas diferentes produtoras de pigmento. Impede que a tirosinase catalise a oxida\u00e7\u00e3o de fen\u00f3is, o primeiro passo na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de melanina. Em mam\u00edferos, a tirosinase \u00e9 encontrada apenas em melanossomas, compartimentos especiais dentro das c\u00e9lulas produtoras de pigmento.
